American politics was always a big discussion, but can you actually say, that their politics are offensive?

Couldn't resist posting this song here. It was written after the Civil War by a Virginian, Major James Randolph, who happened to find the US policy offensive too. Just a piece of history, but if you consider this inappropriate here, delete it, Dansker:

What part of American 'politics' are offensive? One post refered to policy rather than politics, so I'm assuming that there may be some confusion on the intent of the poll. Is it American Policy or Politics? I voted no, but I'm American

I don't want to get into a debate over Iraq and Serbia. Most people have made their minds up along lines of ideology and no matter what I may say it would cause controversy here and I would rather talk about generic topics.

I only posted because I saw some America bashing posts, even one referencing our civil War over 100 years ago . and no one to defend, so I just wanted to engage in a friendly conversation to maybe give some insight to the other side.

As far as our politics it can be funny, it can sound stupid, some politicians are stupid in fact. But the important point is that it's the individuals, not the system. Like anywhere we have our clowns.

But, the system works for us, under our circumstances... Where else in the world can you throw together a hodge podge of over 300 Million people representing almost every nationality, race, creed, religion, bums and honest hard working people from every corner of the world and make it work. Oh yes, we get your crazys and criminals also. Everyone has their bad boys which is too bad, wish you would keep them home but that's life.

Yes, there's a lot of yelling, name calling and silliness in US politics. But we can wake up the morning after and know that we can do what every person has a right to, go to the church we want, vote for who we want, criticize whom we want, protest what ever we want and laugh about it later. It's not something that can be easily explained, it just works.

All I can say to those that like to bash us, open your eyes and hearts. Push the anger aside. America is proof that the peoples of the world can work together if the tyrants will let them.

It's the persons (individuals) that build any system...

Besides, I wouldn't put America as anything special due to its "Democracy" and "Struggle for human rights" for the simple reason that there is no "pure democracy" anywhere in the world... And every action of the USA is directed only at getting maximum money profit, not at building that "ideal world order"... they don't care about other nations... as simple as that, you know...

Yes the confederate states comprised mostly of wealthy white European Immigrant slave owners didn't like the Union abolishing Slavery. The so-called reconstruction era was a period of continued hatred of the Union and federal troops enforcing that policy. after all the entire economy of the south was built upon slave labor. Of course this would be an offensive to those that lost their wealth. But tell me what could be more offensive than slavery.

Pretty, there's no perfect Democracy, America's not perfect, people are not perfect. America's not even a Democracy it's a Republic. I wish you didn't have such a bad feeling about us, but we're not the big bad wolf. Our intentions are quite the opposite, sorry if it doesn't come out that way.

Snowgirl, unfortunately I don't speak Russian. I was lazy in school. I studied Spanish, since I live in California near the border with Mexico but failed miserably. The population here is about 40 percent Mexican American. I'm too old now, my mind just doesn't function as well as it used to.

How about you guy's telling me a little about yourself and what it's like where you live. Snowgirl, you said let's talk about something important. What's on your mind? Anything your interrested in.
