Lightbulb Stalin's 125 aniversary

Today Stalin's 125 aniversary is celebrated in Russia. I'm proud of such a leader to have ruled my mothercountry. He, of course, made some mistakes, but he managed to reorganize Russian industry and agriculture in the conditions of coming war. He was the man who led the country to the victory in the World war II.

Dansker, well you know, there are a lot of positive facts to add to his rule. He conducted nationalistic line in interior policy - the line that Russia is in need today. Yes, Stalin was a dictator, but did you know the fact that when he died he didn't have anything in his private use? He did not rob the country as our contemporary government does. When Stalin's son, Vassily (who fought on one of the fronts of the Second World War) was taken as a prisoner by Germans, Nazis proposed Stalin to exchange his son to the captured by Russians Nazi chief commander Paulus. You know what Stalin answered? "The USSR doesn't exchange private soldier to marshal".
But perhaps the most important result of his rule is that the USSR began one of the two super-powers. The USSR got the nuclear weapon. The USSR advanced in science and stood on the first positions in it. And a lot of facts more thanks to Stalin.

Miol,
Those statistics are very interesting, but as I know, he was mentally sick. He killed more, than a million people without any reason.
But he is one of the best strategy commanders in second world war, isn't he?

Dansker, yes he is. But what he really did was consolidation of the nation before the war. By the year of 1930 Russia was a country which had almost no army and low-developed industry. And during the war the Red army appeared to be enough strong to fight with the strongest army of that perioud - German. Moreover, the Soviet army managed to defeat Nazis. May be you’ve heard that military techniques of the USSR were one of the best-engineered during the war period. As you understand, that needs preparations, development and so on.
Speaking about repressions I would like to say that that was his real mistake and I do not approve of that. But usually when people nowadays come to mention Stalin they speak only about the negative results of his rule.
And speaking about his mental disease all I can say is that he was afraid to be killed by those who could pretend to rule the country and that was not groundless.

'Cause all his positive traits will fade if you sum up all his crimes and mistakes.

He was afraid of being killed, of course, but it isn't an excuse... it isn't even a reasonable explanation.

completely wrong. Yes, Stalin killed more than a million people and millions were sent to labor camps. But today people are left to die without any help from the state and no opportunities arising. The population of the Russian Federation fell down by more than 10 million people during the post-Soviet period. You call it humanism? Yeah? Are you a humanist?
Speaking about Stalin’s rule do you really think that in conditions of coming war (do you remember Stalin's words "if we don't develop our country in 10 years we will be terminated") you could do better than use given human resources in other way then making them work hard. The aim was to the nation to stay alive and the aim was accomplished. There were no industrialization but military industrialization.
Stalin did not have a theory of killing people by sending then to concentration camps. This (though it is awful) was needed. You'd better say thank you to Stalin because you and people of the whole world are still alive and not enslaved by Nazis.
Moreover it is thanks to Stalin our country became one of the greatest countries during the XX century.
Or may be you would better propose to "leave behind" Portugal in 20 years (our today's official aim) in 1939???

Exactly, it was one of his paranoic sicknesses.

Dansker, he was not just a politician. He was the leader of the nation. The man, who changed the state, the society and even the world. He was not an ordinary man. He was like an artist, you understand? I've read an article where it was written that Stalin was like an avangardist in his actions.

I think the question about millions of victims stays as how does one value a human being's life. As for me, I cannot accept ANY benefits when lots die.

Because they can't get them out of the country? USA said, that they will leave only when Iraq will stop terrorize them... They are fighting for fun...
